“Surf, Wave, Love…”

Born in Hiratsuka City, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan. I was captivated by the waves of Oahu’s North Shore and picked up a camera. Since 1995, I have been photographing surf spots around the world, mainly in Hawaii. My photographs, captured with my unique perspective and sensibility, have been highly acclaimed in the surf culture scene. I have left an archive in the prestigious U.S. surfing magazine The Surfer’s Journal and am recognized as one of Japan’s leading surf photographers. I have presented numerous works in magazines, advertisements, solo exhibitions, and art shows both in Japan and abroad.

Following the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011, I turned my focus once again to my homeland, Japan. In recent years, I have drawn attention as a photographer capturing “waves and Mt. Fuji.” My homage to Katsushika Hokusai’s The Great Wave off Kanagawa has become one of my signature works.

I currently run my own atelier gallery, “Peaceman Gallery,” in Hiratsuka, Kanagawa, and “Peaceman Garden Studio” in Miyazaki City, Miyazaki Prefecture. In 2020, after the worsening of my chronic inflammatory bowel disease and undergoing more than ten surgeries, I became an ostomate for life. Despite these challenges, I continue my activities as a para-surfer and underwater photographer.
